Sonasar (Սոնասար) village is located in the Kashatagh region of Artsakh, 186 miles from Armenia’s capital, Yerevan. Sonasar is home to 120 residents and 28 households — one of the smallest villages we’ve ever had the privilege of servicing. The villagers’ main source of income is beekeeping and cattle-breeding. The village has one school (1st-12th grade) with 19 students. Although the village’s only kindergarten is newly renovated, it was not able to operate due to the lack of a playground and necessary furniture. After furnishing the kindergarten with beds, bedding, furniture, and a playground, 20 children (8 from Sonasar and 12 from neighboring villages) between the ages of 3-6 will now be able to attend kindergarten. FCN delivered the necessary furniture and playground equipment on July 10, 2019, and the kindergarten was able to open its doors to the 20 children for a grand opening event on July 14, 2019. The opening of Sonasar Kindergarten will allow children from several villages to have access to early education in a safe and happy environment, to grow up healthy and well-rounded, as well as contribute to the potential population increase of these several villages.
